Forget staycations — here come paintball-cations

A vacation is often a change of mind and a change in situation. The paintball phenomenon offers a chance to do something different (for most of us) normally a short drive from home. Just as hiking, mountain biking and canoeing provide outdoor recreation, paintball fields are offering the great outdoors. Here’s Peggy Shinn’s take on what she calls the modern version of cowboys and Indians.

Hidden in Switzerland – Salouf on the Roman road

saloufthumb.gifAlmost smack in the middle of Graubunden, the province in the southeast corner of Switzerland, lays the quiet village of Salouf with about 200 inhabitants. Without perspective, this grouping of buildings and barns is only another sleepy mountain village, however, Salouf comes alive with history.

 

Davos and Klosters marriage by trails

grischunathumb.gifThe Swiss resorts of Klosters and Davos are only about a half-hour by train from each other, but worlds apart in their town experience. Klosters village spreads with wooden chalets-style buildings and Davos is square, concrete and urban.

This week, I am visiting three resorts in Switzerland. The first is Arosa in the southwestern corner of the country.

 

Back in Switzerland

swisschurchthumb.gifAh! I’m back in Switzerland for the first time in about eight years or so. My first thoughts, as we circled the airport and the Swiss International Airlines non-stop flight from Boston turned on to final approach, were how beautiful and green Switzerland is, even as it becomes more and more populated.
