Excellent, thanks for the information.
I'll probably end up with a decent amount of time in the evenings, so I'll have to look into the local music scene and I've been looking to see if they have a minor league baseball team (I don't think they do) since one of my favorite things to do in a new city is catch a game. |

From one of my colleagues who lives in Denton, he says there are lots of chains, but there are a couple of great local places:
http://www.hannahsoffthesquare.com/ https://www.giuseppesitaliana.com/ "Next level down (in my opinion, not everyone else’s):" http://www.greenhouserestaurantdenton.com/ http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-guapos-denton He says the Hampton Inn is good but that there is a less expensive La Quinta close to campus (thus close to the interstate). I'll second the opinion you should check out the music scene on campus. The One O'Clock Lab Band (so-named because of the time they rehearse) is world famous, but even the other jazz bands on campus are wonderful, as are the many other ensembles UNT hosts. When it comes to performance, North Texas is hands-down the best music school in the state. And I'm not just saying that because my degree is from there (not my music degree...the other one...I could never have hacked it in their music school). You're also close enough to Dallas/Ft. Worth that you could drive down and visit if something catches your fancy. Close enough that you'll notice the rush-hour traffic that spills over a bit - ugh! Denton itself isn't large enough to have a real rush hour on its own, so when you see it, know it belongs to DFW. |

And from another colleague:
There are four relatively new hotels in Denton. Best Western Atrea Crown Chase Inn & Suites 2450 Brinker RD Denton, TX 76208-6431 US Holiday Inn 1434 CENTRE PLACE DRIVE DENTON, TX 76205 UNITED STATES Hampton Inn 1513 Centre Place Drive Denton, Texas, USA, 76205 1-940-891-4900 Courtyard Marriott · 2800 Colorado Blvd · Denton, Texas 76210 USA · Phone: 1-940-382-4600 A friend of mine always likes El Matador Mexican www.elmatadorrestaurant.com 720 West University Drive Denton, TX 76201-1890 (940) 387-1137 A nice local restaurant is Greenhouse—we have lunch there as a dept. for parties sometimes. www.greenhouserestaurantdenton.com 600 North Locust Street Denton, TX 76201-2902 (940) 484-1349 And Courtyard and BW inn are near Dickey’s BBQ, a local chain, plus Texas roadhouse. I like the local Chinese buffet at Red Pepper, across the interstate from Courtyard. So Greenhouse showed up twice, as did the Hampton. This person is a little older (closer to retirement age) than the first person I posted (who is more like 30-ish? and bachelor) Their tastes are bound to be a bit different from each other. |

LOL..ditto the traffic. As much as Denton has resisted being part of Dallas, it HAS happened. Rush hour traffic starts/ends Denton-Dallas. Denton as retained it's own 'town' feel tho...not to be confused with many suburbs as belonging to Dallas ( or Ft. Worth!).
no AA or AAA in Denton..Frisco has a team (take 380 over). OKC is 3 hours north...The Red Hawks are there. You will NOT be bored nights/weekends..... Have fun!! |

There's always the college team, if you want baseball. And then, of course, Arlington has the Texas Rangers, which is a lot closer to Denton than OKC. But if you want to come visit OKC, come on. There's some fun stuff here, and not just baseball, which is smack in the middle of Bricktown, right across from Sonic's "World Headquarters."
