America’s 10 most stressful airports
Last February, we noted the US News and World Report Airport Misery Index. Now, just in time for Thanksgiving, Forbes has released their list of the country’s most stressful airports.
Best world airports to overnight
Many of us have been stuck overnight in airports without the benefits of a reserved hotel room. Others simply choose to save money by nodding off in the airport waiting areas rather than spending the money for a real bed. The Sleeping in Airports Web site is proof that virtually everything can be found on the web.
Airport services beyond shopping and fast food might help save time
Perhaps airports should add new services beyond dining and shopping that might help travelers, especially frequent fliers, who don’t have time to get everything done at home. This would be a blessing for road warriors who spend much too much time in airports and vacationers who simply run out of time before having to race to the airport.
McCain and Obama on air traffic control
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) recently asked the two presidential candidates about air traffic control plans and general aviation. As might be expected, John McCain, who actually knows how to fly a plane, and Barack Obama, who has only flown on planes piloted by others have different points of view.
CNN or Fox? The death of airport TV news
Politics has entered the world of airport waiting areas. A group of professors from Notre Dame has protested the airing of Fox News at the the South Bend, Ind., airport. They feel Fox offers news with a conservative slant. Some want to shift back to CNN. In our world of political correctness, get ready for the Weather Channel and a slew of lawsuits.
Airlines stand in the way of airport modernization
Airlines sometimes are the biggest impediment to airport modernization, especially at airports where one airline is the dominant carrier. The move towards more airport self-service options for passengers faces a learning curve not only for passengers but for the airlines themselves.
Airport marriages take off
People often get married in the strangest places. How about at the airport? It’s not so far-fetched, so says USA Today. And what better place to tie the knot and then be ready for take-off to a romantic honeymoon.
Hong Kong — world’s best airport for 2008
Hong Kong International Airport has again been named the World’s Best Airport. It won the award last year and won for the seventh time in 10 years.
Add airports to list opposing Delta-Northwest merger
Union workers and influential congressmen are opposed to the pending merger. Now add airports that are in line to be stiffed and lose flights to the list.
Can anyone design a nice airport?
Airports are the lynchpin for our transportation system, however the news is filled with failures at Heathrow and at JFK to name a few. Can they work to make traveling life easier?
