Lost in a corn maze in Virginia

With a clear blue autumn sky overhead and mild fall temperatures, I took my first steps onto pale yellow cut corn stalks into my first corn maze. The path was about as wide as my outstretched arms, on each side of me corn stalks rose to about ten feet and crickets and grasshoppers hopped from husk to husk.

 

9/11 memorials dedicated in Boston and at the Pentagon

Seven years after 9/11/2001 major memorials are finally being dedicated to the passengers and crew over this past year. Two new memorials were unveiled at Logan Airport, Boston, and at the Pentagon, just outside of Washington, DC. More are planned. Never forget.

Mt. Vernon’s “secret” basements

mtvernonbasementdoor.gifNicolas Cage kidnaps the president and drags him into a secret basement beneath Mount Vernon in “National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets.” I rolled my eyes and suspended belief — surely this is made-for-movies fantasy, just like the buried treasure under Manhattan. Not so fast! There really is a secret basement under Mount Vernon!
