1 dead, 2 hurt in Amtrak accident
An Amtrak train hit three workers who were inspecting tracks in Providence, R.I., Thursday, killing one and injuring the other two, The Boston Globe reports. The Boston-bound train was just north of downtown Providence at 1:15 p.m. when it hit the workers, spokesman Cliff Cole told the Globe. According to the report, two of the workers were Amtrak employees, and the third was a contractor. Train number 2154 had begun its journey in Washington, D.C., and had 162 passengers and six employees on board when it hit the workers, Cole said.
