A website tries to redefine value

Air travelers have said, loud and clear, that price matters (enter the discount carriers). At what point, however, does it become less of a bargain to take the lowest fare? If you saved $50 on a flight to Miami only to have the airline lose your luggage, is it worth it? The New York Times introduces us to a new website, InsideTrip.com, that intends to identify what it calls 12 “pain points” (legroom, timeliness of the flight, type of aircraft, etc.) for travelers and rate flights based on those concerns — in addition to price. From the Times: “‘No other Web site out there is offering this degree of context,’ said Henry H. Harteveldt, principal travel analyst at Forrester Research, who has previewed the site. ‘It helps you as the traveler understand the full value you’re getting.’”
