Add airports to list opposing Delta-Northwest merger
Union workers and influential congressmen are opposed to the pending merger. Now add airports that are in line to be stiffed and lose flights to the list.
Besides the pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, ticket takers, House and Senate committee members and passengers who have serious questions about the planned merger of Delta and Northwest, add a cadre of airport managers who see the merger and flight restructuring leading to fewer flights and lower revenue.
Detroit and Memphis are two airports that have invested heavily in infrastructure improvements for Northwest Airlines and that have probably provided significant tax breaks to keep workers and flights at their facilities. With Memphis to close to Atlanta and Detroit so close to Minneapolis/St.Paul and Cincinnati, they are surely looking at massive changes to their “hub status” despite reassurances from Delta and Northwest.
