Alitalia take-over crashes
The take-over bid by Air France-KLM for struggling (to put it mildly) Alitalia has crash landed once the Italian unions entered the fray.
Here is the BBC story about the aftermath.
Unions had objected to the expected loss of 2,100 jobs under the takeover plans.
FILT-CGIL, the largest of nine unions representing Alitalia workers blamed Air France-KLM’s chairman Jean-Cyril Spinetta, for the collapse of takeover talks.
Meanwhile the final straw for Air France-KLM appeared to be a last minute attempt from unions to broker a side deal with an unidentified Italian company.
I suggest that no one book or pay for any tickets on Alitalia. Between the rapid loss of money and the present political turmoil in Italy, travelers would be prudent to book away from Alitalia.
I even suspect that Air France/KLM is breathing a sigh of relief.
