“Cast” your vote for these useful websites

You may or may not have heard of Farecast, the website that uses statistical information to help you determine the time you’re most likely to obtain the best deals, whether purchasing airline tickets or booking hotel accommodations. Having no personal experience with the website as of yet, I can’t speak for how accurate the results are. However, in theory at least, Farecast seems to be a great concept and promises to be a powerful tool in the modern traveler’s arsenal.

Speaking of statistical information: another potentially useful website recently popped on the scene which is designed to aid in the prediction of flight delays. My understanding is that Delaycast is fairly accurate, and relies (at least partially) on data gathered from sources such as the FAA’s flight delay information website and the TSA’s security checkpoint wait times website.

Have you used either of these websites yet? Find them to be useful? Accurate? Not at all? Tell us what you think in the comments.

I talk up Farecast to a lot of people. I first heard about it at Webvisions 2007 here in Portland - one of the presenters used it as an example for something.

Personally, I use it to get a good idea of what a “normal” price is for a certain flight, and also to determine if I should wait a bit to buy to see if the price will go down. Granted, I don’t fly very often, but I really like that it’s a fast way to get a good overview of patterns in prices.

I will be checking it out! We often wonder when the cheapest times to travel are…and have no clue.

    Thanks for this, Chris!
