Delta-Northwest deal is dead — no really, this time we mean it

Further evidence that the Delta-Northwest merger is deader than a doornail. The union for Delta Air Line pilots said yesterday it wasn’t interested in arbitration to solve a failed attempt to integrate its seniority list with that of a potential merger partner, according to Marketwatch. Both carriers had been planning a merger for months, but the inability of its pilot unions to agree on how to integrate seniority lists, which decides pilot flight routes, equipment and pay scale, has so far been an insurmountable hurdle. On Tuesday, pilot union leaders at Northwest Airlines suggested arbitration to settle the question of seniority with Delta, according to various media reports Wednesday.
