Finally, Senate schedules air traffic legislation

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that he plans to bring the FAA reauthorization bill that has been stalled in committee up for a vote next week.

Applause for Senator Reid. Finally, he is moving this bill to the Senate floor after months of inaction and committee disputes. Hopefully something workable will emerge from the commerce aviation subcommittee and finance committee that will be allowed to move forward.

Government Executive has a good article on some of the intricacies of this legislation. This is certaily a case of too many cooks can spoil the soup. With so many committees involved, it is a miracle that anything gets accomplished.

The ramifications of this bill are far-flung. In a column posted last year, I pointed out the affect on the ATC system that this dithering has causes.

Hopefully, some sort of compromise will emerge.
