For some airlines, ticket changes now cost more

The ever-informative website airfarewatchdog.com reports that both United and Continental Airlines will now charge $150 to change a non-refundable ticket on a domestic route flight, up from the previous fee of $100.

American, Delta, Frontier, Midwest, Northwest and US Air are all holding to their $100 fee for now, but that isn’t expected to last forever. Southwest remains the only carrier, that I know of, to not charge such a change fee.

While many of the newer, low cost carriers do charge these fees, they are modest in comparison to others ranging from a $40 fee for Virgin America to $75 for Airtran. JetBlue and Spirit fall in-between this range with $50 and $60-$70 fees, respectively.
