Get your flu shot at an airport near you
Traveling somewhere and worried about getting sick? You may be able to get a flu shot before you take off.
Airports across the country are offering flu shots. For example, both Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta and O’Hare in Chicago offer the shots for $35. Lindbergh Airport in San Diego, partnering with a non-profit organization, offers the shots free of charge, but they accept donations.
It all started with an experiment. UIC Medical Center at O’Hare International set up kiosks offering flu shots out on the concourses. Even though the shot was priced higher than at pharmacies, it was a big hit with travelers.
Director Dr. John Zautcke told USA Today that they gave more than 5,000 flu shots last year and they plan to give close to 6,000 this year.
In Atlanta, traveler Tomás Cobbs said that it was a “godsend.” Marilyn and Gerald Feldman, who were on their way to Massachusetts said that they were delighted to be able to get the shot early in the season.
