Going to Toronto? Rent a car for $1 a day - sort of

If you plan on going to Toronto anytime after Sept. 1, you can rent a Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper Clubman, or Smart Car for $1 a day.

CityFlitz is a Toronto-based marketing company which recently started an auto sharing service in Toronto, Ontario. For just $1 a day, users can rent one of the vehicles above. So what’s the catch?

The cars come with advertising all around it. In a sense, you’re a moving billboard. Gadling also tells us that you have to drive at least 19 miles a day. After that, it’s unlimited. There’s also a $30 signup fee (one time fee), $7 monthly usage fee, and a $350 security deposit that you get back when you return the car. You also have to be at least 23 years old. The cars do come with a GPS, ability to find a WiFi HotSpot, and text message unlock.

CityFlitz charges the advertisers up to $400 a day. The advertisers are given the choice of having the CityFlitz team drive the cars, the advertisers themselves drive the car, or the public (you) drive the car.

They have three advertisers signed up so far: Yahoo! Canada, Global Ryan’s Pet Foods, and RedPipeCA.

If the test run is successful, they’ll be expanding to other Canadian cities.
