Hanna becomes a hurricane, heads for the mainland

Tropical storm Hanna has just become Hurricane Hanna. The National Hurricane Center has issued an advisory and projects the storm will slowly turn and take aim at the U.S. mainland later this week. Hanna is currently near Mayaguana Island in the Southeastern Bahamas and will probably strengthen in the next 24 hours, say forecasters. We’ll have more on the storm and its likely effects on travelers soon.

Our correspondent Evelyn Fine says Royal Caribbean is not canceling its Sovereign of the Seas Bahamas itinerary, with only one minor change. She reports:

Everyone on the ship, and the ship is full, seems to be satisfied with the change in itinerary (seems no one wants to tender into Royal Caribbean’s private island during a storm).

Looks like we’re going to have a theme cruise: Rock & Roll. We’re making our way south along the Atlantic Coast of Florida.

We sail at 5 p.m.
