Has American redefined ‘denied boarding’?

Christopher Elliott shares the story of a passenger on American Airlines who said he was not allowed to board his flight and had to rebook through Southwest — at a cost of $800. The airline is balking at the passenger’s request to pay for the rebooked flight. (Interesting timing on this as the Transportation Department just announced that passengers who are involuntarily bumped from their flight are entitled to better compensation.) The passenger, Mohit Singla is taking American to small claims court, Elliott reports. Says Elliott, “I’m worried that the airlines have simply tightened their definition of ‘involuntary denied boarding’ now that they have to pay more compensation to passengers.”
