Hawaii volcano forces evacuation
Some 2,000 people were forced to leave Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Wednesday because of escalated levels of sulfur dioxide in the air. According to the Associated Press, there was not enough wind blowing to dissipate the noxious gas. “Our primary concern is for the health and safety of visitors and employees,” said Joe Molhoek, the park’s incident commander. “We’re in close contact with the National Weather Service and look forward to favorable winds by week’s end.”
