Tropical storm Fay may not look like much at the moment, but forecasters expect her to become a hurricane by late Tuesday. Here’s what travelers need to know about this cyclone.
If you’re visiting the Florida Keys, your vacation’s over.
Monroe County is evacuating visitors and closing schools and county offices. If you’re driving up U.S. Highway 1, watch for traffic.
Several airlines have waived change fees for passengers affected by the storm, including Delta Air Lines and JetBlue. I would expect other air carriers, including American Airlines and Continental Airlines, to follow suit.
Fay has already created a huge public-relations disaster for US Airways, which stranded hundreds of passengers in the Dominican Republic under less-than-desirable circumstances.
At least two cruises, one departing from Miami and the other from Tampa, have been affected by the storm, according to our colleague Anita Dunham-Potter.
The real problems may emerge later in the week, when Fay could go “H” and hit Florida’s other coast. Keep a watch on the Florida Department of Transportation site for updates on road conditions and other warnings.
