Hide-and-seek hotel

Want to stay at the Sofitel in Rosemont, Ill., near O’Hare airport and the Stephens Convention Center? Better not look on Sofitel.com for Rosemont, Ill. That’d be too easy. After all, the hotel is in Rosemont.

Instead, you have to type in Chicago, which brings you to two Sofitels, including the one in – tada! – Rosemont.

Stupid Web tricks.

Many hotel websites are like that. Searching for hotels in specfic cities outside large cities rarely works. The website make you go through all these hoops to find the hotel you want. Yet when the hotel comes up, it is listed under the original city you were searching for. I don’t understand it! Can anyone from the hotel industry give a logical reason why this happens?

This “hide & seek” hotel business is not the least bit surprising, especially in Chicagoland. The myriad suburbs surrounding Chicago are all considered…..well, Chicago in webland.
