Hungry? Thirsty? Bored? Welcome aboard
We’re already used to going hungry on domestic flights. Now get ready to add “thirsty” and “bored” to the list.
US Airways will start charging for beverages later this summer, and now United Airlines has quietly raised the cost of an alcoholic beverage to $6. Yes six bucks, even for a domestic beer.
And following in the footsteps of the disappearing magazines, movies may be next.
US Airways is cutting inflight movies on domestic flights as of November 6, apparently to save fuel. The in-flight entertainment systems weigh about 500 pounds.
Of course, doing this in November will likely soon be offset by the fact that many Americans, especially those who are already heavy, gain weight over the holidays.
But look at the bright side. Maybe if domestic airlines cut out movies as a general rule, you might never have to waste two hours of your life with bombs like “The Love Guru” or “Speed Racer.”

I was forced to watch Gigli once on a plane….not fun at all. Actually, in terms of the IFE, I won’t miss it at all.
But if DL follows suit, I guess that puts the Delta hottie out of business?
Will the US FAs now need to do the emergency procedures talk live?
looks like we have a choice, fly USAir or not. If a free soda is important, then don’t fly USAir. If a bad movie is important, then don’t fly USAir.
when they ‘thank you for flying *** airlines, we know you have a choice in flying” guess what? You DO!
If enough folks do not fly USAir then they’ll see the error of their ways.
We just surrendered ALL of our FFB miles on 2 airlines for free tickets. We turned in 180,000 out of 186233 miles on AA for two business class tickets on British Airways to Rome. Definitely worth it.
The CO miles we turned in for 2 free coach tickets off hours for Thanksgiving so family can come see us from across the country - and we canceled the airline miles credit cards for money back.
We’re phasing out the airlines . . . they’re phasing us out, so whats the big deal.
I’m glad that I’m already in the habit of bringing my own entertainment (in the form of a portable DVD player, MP3 player and a good book), food and drinks onboard. Wonder what they’ll start eliminating or nickel-and-diming us for next…
@ JEanie - I’ve got the NEXT charge - on board power. You know, they installed all the power ports in the F class and then in the front of the cabin for the frequent fliers and then every 3rd row for the rest of us in coach- well - that power is free now. Pay per use is coming - $1 per flight segment - with a little card you need to swipe or credit card that detects a plug in and pulls up your browser to keep the power on . . .
