Krista Bauer finally had her day in court. The California woman who drunkenly assaulted a flight attendant while traveling to her sister’s funeral has been sentenced to time served and 200 hours of community service.
Bauer, you’ll recall, uttered the now-famous words, “If anyone is going to die tonight it’ll be you,” when a flight attendant told her to return to her seat. She also reportedly grabbed the attendant around the head and neck, in an apparent effort to underscore her point.
Bauer already spent 36 days in custody, plus 60 at a treatment facility.
Anyone tempted to turn Bauer into the latest poster child for air rage would be disappointed. The number of air rage incidents reported to the federal government is down — way down — from last year. If the trend holds, this will be a record low year for the decade, and perhaps since the beginning of the jet age.
The only thing that’s left to argue about is Bauer’s sentence. Did the judge go too easy on her? Some pilots think so.

I was surprised to hear that cases of air rage are way down from what they have been previously. With longer lines at security points, strict restrictions on liquids and not to mention all the new charges, fees etc that the airlines are bringing in I would have thought cases of air rage would have sky-rocketed.
i wonder if this is because people going to an airport have jsut resigned themselves to abuse and regulation, and so are more prepared for it?
