Is mating season over for the airline industry?

So much for merger mania. Only last week the United Airlines/US Airways merger was a “done deal” and Delta/Northwest was already married. Now, reality is sinking in.

US Airways pilots are rebelling against the idea of hooking up with United, saying that they want to finish the US Airways/America West merger before jumping into another.

And the Delta and Northwest pilots have staked out opposing positions on the benefits of the pending merger.

Continental is still continuing its talks with United Airlines, while newspaper articles claim that the United chief executive has agreed that the US Airways CEO could take over should he step aside.

There’s a lot of spin going on.

Fortunately, no one is touting the fact that mergers are a coming fact of life. In fact, life without mergers may the real future.
