JetBlue pushes back new JFK terminal debut

JetBlue is postponing the inauguration of its new Terminal 5 at JFK until October 22 from October 1.

Alison Eshelman, airline spokeswoman, told Travel Weekly that they wanted to give vendors more time to prepare. She said that everything related to the airline, including the baggage systems and back office operations are ready to go. The delay “will allow additional time to ensure that our retail and food-and-beverage partners complete the work necessary to open T5 with all customer-service elements in place.”

The new terminal with have 26 gates, a 20-lane security checkpoint, and, upon exiting security, passengers will find a 225-foot-long bench so they can sit and put their shoes back on.

JetBlue said the terminal has much natural light; lounge-like and traditional seating at gates; free Wi-Fi throughout; food-ordering capability at the gates; and a visual paging system that makes for a quieter terminal.

A central Marketplace at the connection of the three concourses has nine full-service
restaurants, bars, and cafes; eight quick-serve eateries; three coffee bars; six bars/lounges and 25 retail stores.
