Mexico travel alert renewed

The State Department on Monday updated its travel alert for Mexico, which was issued in October 2007, to warn U.S. tourists of ongoing border violence. U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Tony Garza, who was in Juárez on April 4 to assess the situation, said U.S. tourists are not being asked to avoid traveling in Mexico, the El Paso Times reported. While there was no evidence that U.S. citizens were being targeted in violent areas, experts urged caution. “There is always the possibility to be at the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Jack Riley, special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in El Paso. “I would be cautious.”
