More delay and frustration

Is business travel even worse this year than last? Joe Sharkey thinks so — and the peak business and leisure travel time of year isn’t here yet. In his latest “On the Road” column, Sharkey says that of eight trips he’s booked or taken in the last two months, two were scuttled. Adding to his misery (and ours), the airlines are raising fares. Says Sharkey, “With oil prices soaring, the airlines say they are barely managing to keep their heads above water, even with the higher fares and fuel surcharges. For business travelers, this is already shaping up as one tough year.”

On my first two trips of the year, the return flight was canceled. One due to the pilots hitting their time limit for the day, the other for an engine start problem upon leaving the gate. The next two trips were pretty much on time.
