My airline is grounded… now what?

by Jon Surmacz on April 3, 2008

Christopher Elliott has some bad news for travelers on the recently grounded Aloha Airlines, Champion Air and ATA. First, no federal law says that other airlines have to accept your tickets. Second, if you paid for your ticket with something other than a credit card, the chances of you getting your money back are slim, Elliott reports. So what can you do? He suggests:

  • Try to find an airline that will accept your ticket
  • Do a little homework the next time you fly and look for signs of economic unrest (executive departures, cutbacks, etc.)
  • Consult a travel professional
