No discounts at the Mark

When the Mark Hotel in Manhattan re-opens later this year after renovations, rooms will start at $1,000 per night. And, even in a recession, the general manager expects the prices to hold. According to an article in The New York Times, business at the Mark will rely on foreign travelers as much as American travelers and get a boost from 42 co-op apartments (prices range from $2 million to $60 million). “In my day, you had your rate, and if the client couldn’t pay it, they didn’t come, and that was it,” James Sherwin, the general manager told the Times. “I’m a great believer in, if necessary, letting the occupancy drop a bit, but keeping your rates as you wish.”
