Norwegian to once again make runs from Miami to Bahamas

Norwegian Cruise Line has said that the previously troubled Pride of Aloha will be moving from Hawaii to Miami in July for three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas.

USA Today reports that the nine-year-old ship will be renamed the Norwegian Sky which was its original name before Norwegian moved it to its Hawaii subsidiary back in 2004.

Apparently, the ship was already scheduled to leave the NCL America fleet in May but it was not expected to re-enter the North American market. Instead, plans had previously been announced to transfer the ship to Asia.

The vessel had the not so good fortune of getting a “cringe-inducing review” from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Vessel Sanitation Program this past December.

Some “deficiencies” listed in the report included bacteria in the whirlpool and moldy ice machines. Still worse were findings of poorly refrigerated beef, food kept past the recommended seven-day post-preparation period, a filthy meat grinder and counters covered with food particles and mold.

Obviously, they have since taken the appropriate steps to respond to and correct all of the infractions.

The new cruises start at $229 per person for an inside cabin; $329 per person for a balcony cabin.

The lingering doubt in the back of passengers’ minds who are aware of the previous health issues onboard the ship? That’s provided at no additional charge.
