Southwest Airlines, which is contesting a $10.2 million penalty from the Federal Aviation Administration for missing safety inspections on dozens of planes, has hired an outside firm to investigate the airline’s maintenance procedures. The airline also placed three employees on leave, the Associated Press reports. The firm, JDA Aviation Technology Solutions, was hired last month after Southwest CEO Gary Kelly learned of the FAA probe. “I am concerned with some of our findings as to our regulatory compliance processes,” Kelly said in a statement. He said he insisted that the airline has the correct organizational structure “to ensure that the right decisions are being made.”
