United raises fuel surcharge

United Airlines will raise its domestic fuel surcharge by $10 to $20 roundtrip. The move piggybacks a fare increase announced less than a week ago. According to an Associated Press report, travelers who were paying a $25 one-way surcharge will see the charge jump to $35. In markets where United didn’t apply a fuel surcharge, customers will see an additional $5 one-way. “My gut tells me that this attempt may not make it … but I cannot rule out the possibility of major matching in the next 5 days,” FareCompare.com Chief Executive Rick Seaney said in an e-mail to the AP about United’s latest move.
