Update: Norwegian has video surveillance of Mindy Smith’s fall

Mindy Smith pictured with her two childrenNorwegian Cruise Line now says it has video footage from a ship’s surveillance cameras showing Mindy Smith’s fall from the Dawn.

While it is not clear why Norwegian did not make the existence of the surveillance tapes known before, they have now provided a minute by minute account of her last minutes aboard the ship and they also confirm that she was alone at the time of her fall. Apparently, she was trying to climb between the two balconies of the adjoining staterooms when the deadly fall occurred.

– 7:28 PM. Mindy Jordan and Jorge Caputo return to their cabin after dining at the ship’s Garden Cafe with another couple with whom they were traveling.

– 7:36 PM. Caputo left the cabin and went to join the other couple in their cabin next door. From that moment on, Mindy is alone in her stateroom.

– 7:53 PM. Surveillance cameras from the exterior of the ship capture Mindy falling overboard from her balcony, straight into the water. Shortly thereafter, an emergency call was made from the friends’ stateroom and Jorge is seen exiting to seek help.

– 7:57 PM. A man overboard announcement is made and the ship’s crew began lifesaving operations, including the launch of two rescue boats.

Looks like Jorge is out of the woods as far as having the spotlight on him and the question of foul play on everyone’s lips. Mindy’s family has fueled the flames of the speculation the past three days by publically criticizing Jorge.Norwegian Dawn

Oops.

The Dawn had just left New York City Sunday on a one-week cruise to Bermuda when the incident occurred that same evening. Upon being notified, the ship’s crew immediately began search and rescue operation and called in the U.S. Coast Guard, but Jordan was never found and the search was called off late Monday.

There could be another explanation for this. Maybe the ship is just cursed?

I think this is fascinating….I can’t remember another instance where a Cruiseline has announced they had an incident like this on tape and I’m not sure that means they haven’t had it on tape…..
