US Airways to charge for 2nd bag

Following the lead of United Airlines, US Airways will charge $25 for passengers to check a second bag as of May 5, 2008, the airline announced today. But that’s just for starters. Checking a third bag will cost passengers another $100. According to a report in the Charlotte Observer, the new fees don’t apply to Dividend Miles Preferred members, first class and Envoy passengers, Star Alliance Silver and Gold members, active military personnel, unaccompanied minors and people checking assistive devices.

Tripso’s Charlie Leocha said back on Feb. 5 that he expected other airlines to adopt this policy. Customers may not like it, but Leocha says it’s a good business decision for the airlines. What do you think?
