China Eastern, Shanghai on verge of merger

China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines are about to merge at the behest of the government.

SAL VP Feng Xin confirmed the trading suspension was related to the pending merger. “Yes, we are going to merge with CEA very soon,” Feng told ATWOnline yesterday at the IATA annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur, but he would not reveal any details on the process.

Statue of Liberty crown tickets available on June 13

If you plan on being in New York City on June 13 and again on July 4, you can get tickets to climb to the crown of the Statue of Liberty.

Only 240 people per day will get admission to Lady Liberty’s crown–meaning only 30 people every hour, in groups of 10 people at a time.

Because of the limited number of tickets available and the expected interest in access to the crown, reservations will surely be necessary.

London faces travel chaos as subway workers strike

Starting Tuesday evening, the London subway slowly ground to a halt as union workers walked off the job in dispute over pay.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport union said thousands of London Underground workers would stay away from their posts for the next 48 hours.

The RMT union represents drivers, station staff and maintenance workers on some of the system’s busiest routes. Other transit workers may also join in the strike, potentially knocking out nearly all the 249 mile- (402 kilometer-) long network for two days.

Ok, this wasnt the experience I expected. I traveled out to the Island during the summer months. The statue is hollow inside and the stairs are very, very narrow and steep. The lady attracts heat from the sun and the inside temperature is HOT. It’s crowded and the person in front of you may be slow. I dont recommend this venture for anyone out of shape. It’s a climb is an understatement.
