Whole-body scanning expands

Whole-body scanning, where a TSA screener sees a detailed image of a person’s body, will expand to New York and Los Angeles this week. According to a CNN report, the machines will be rolled out at John F. Kennedy Airport and Los Angeles Airport later this week. The controversial machines debuted in Phoenix and sparked complaints from privacy advocates. Since then the Transportation Security Administration has taken steps to ensure individuals’ privacy. For instance, the screener who reviews the images will be in a booth, unable to see who is being screened. According to the report, the TSA will use two different methods at JFK and LAX as they study the most effective way to use the machines.
